Basing from its title, security guard is a watchman intended for the safety of either person(s) or thing(s). The word can be understood on its literal meaning yet a large number of people are not able to recognize the specification of the job and the duties it entails. Way back in the early years of middle age, in Europe, guards are hired to have someone to watch on their possessions and report if there were attacks that have occurred.

Soon after, these guards were accepted as watchmen that solely patrol at night. It is during night time that burglars usually attack. After that, this profession has developed to a universal label like security guard, security officer or private patrol officer. In most cases, most people assumes guards like a police in a sense that similar to a police officer, guards have their guns and also arrest someone whose behavior is unacceptable in public places but they cannot put someone in jail.

They only serve as someone who is in-charge in maintaining peace and order in the area where he is assigned or when someone approaches him for help due to a commotion or other distracting situation that needs safety. Furthermore, a security officer either be unarmed or armed guard but most security officers are armed to be able to fight squarely to criminals, burglars and to other individuals who are fully geared that aims to destroy, harass or tries to pursue a bad intention on the person(s) or thing(s) entrusted to him.

In order for a security officer to carry weapons or become an armed guard, he must pass all the trainings intended for this profession. Regulations and licenses for security guard differ from each state. The majority of states will not allow someone who was once a convict of a crime or has acquired major offenses to be hailed as a security officer. On the other hand, becoming a security officer does not require a high educational background. You do not have to be in college to pursue this profession. You only have to pass the requirements and training provided by your state.

After the completion of training, a license will be served. The license will then authorize you to become a full-pledged security officer. As a security officer, you need to have a robust body.  Like a bouncer, part of your job is to deal with troubles that require strength. Fortunately, this is not always the scenario, the usual tasks of a security officer are to observe, report and communicate to their boss. A security guard profession is highly in demand today and this job is quite stable. Most big companies and even small businesses require a guard for the safety of their business and their own.
